Upper Valley Jewish Community | A welcoming, egalitarian synagogue serving Hanover and surrounding areas October 16, 2017 To my most beautiful Congregation: I want to begin by thanking all of you for the privilege of serving as your Rabbi these past twenty years. The time has flown by far too quickly. I have been the one blessed to be a part of this remarkable community. This past year, I have seen the spiritual growth of our community, especially with a new generation who has assumed the mantle of leadership. In deep reflection throughout these High Holy Days, I have reached the conclusion that it is time to step down at the end of my contract, June 30, 2018 and for this sacred community to begin a search for a new Rabbi who will provide spiritual leadership as Kol Ha'Emek grows in new and exciting ways. By announcing my decision now, it will lay a smooth foundation for transition as our leadership begins a new chapter in the unfolding history of Kol Ha'Emek: The Upper Valley Jewish Community. I am deeply appreciative of the support and the relationships over the many years of service. As I have often said, I believe that I have the best rabbinate in the country. It has been a most fulfilling experience in ways I never would have imagined. I know that the rabbinic successor(s) will feel the same. In the interim, I will continue to be blessed in serving as your Rabbi. If you should have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at 1-603-646-0361 or rabbi@dartmouth.edu . L'shalom, Rabbi

The neighborhood has bustling street life the synagogues have great historical and artictic value, and all sites are within easy walking distance of one another.BALAT,This is another of the quarters in which Jews were settled after their expulsion from Spain enlarging a community which had lived here since Byzantine times. Today Balat is a working-class district on the shores of the Golden Horn. Though it once has as many as nineteen synagogues, only two of importance remain the famous Ahrida and the neighboring Yanbol. The site of a Jewish school is close by, and Or Ahayim Jewish Hospital is several hundred meters to the northwest, within walking distance.SISLI,Sisli (SHEESH-lee) is a prosperous residential and commercial district 2-1/2 km north of Taksim Square. Two Jewish interest sites, the Sisli Beth Israel Synagogue and the Italian Jewish Cemetery are worth visiting here..ORTAKOY,In the nineteenth century, many wealthy Istanbul families had summer houses in Ortakoy ( OHR-tah-keuy ) then a Bosphorus village. Today Ortakoy has become part of the Istanbul metropolis and is a fashionable place to live winter or summer. Though the Jewish orphanage here is gone and the Historic ETZ Ahayim Synagogue building burnt in 1941 and there is stilla synagogue here and many order historic Ottoman sites in the vicinity.PRINCESS ISLANDS,Some historians say the Princes'' Islands ,a half hour''s voyage southeast of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara were named for their use as a place of exile for wayward or inconvinent Byzantine princes. In Turkish they are simply called Adalar ( ah-dal-LAHR).HOME,OUR TOURS,ABOUT US,WHY VISIT ISTANBUL ?,TESTIMONIALS,ISTANBUL JEWISH HERITAGE TOURS,jewish heritage tour in istanbul, jewish tours in istanbul, jewish heritage tours in istanbul turkey, hakan hacibekiroglu,Welcome to our IJHT web site.. Congregation Schaarai Zedek | Enriching Tampa's Reform Jewish Heritage for over 100 years B'ruchim Habaim The synagogue is traditionally known by three names: beit t'fillah (a house of worship), beit midrash (a house of study), and beit k'nesset (a house of gathering). Schaarai Zedek is a welcoming, inclusive synagogue that embodies these three names. As a house of worship, we pray together in diverse ways, celebrating Shabbat and holidays with meaningful, engaging services. As a house of study, we learn together, from the Amy Gail Buchman Preschool and the Flom Religious School through our seniors, with creative methods, engaging classes, and intriguing lectures. And as a house of gathering, Schaarai Zedek is a place for Jewish families of all types to come together for events including movie nights, community service projects, campfires by the lake, or live music and dancing. Whatever we do, our goal is always to create and support the Jewish community and have fun while we do it. But most importantly, the bayit that is Schaarai Zedek is not just a house, it is a home. As we pray together, learn together, and gather together, we love being together. Welcome home. Welcome to Schaarai Zedek. -Rabbi Joel Simon
