Odyssey of a Self Taught Artist Marc Simmons Marc Simmons of Hartford, Connecticut, is a self-taught artist who works as an accountant by day and paints by night. He has been painting since 1979. Winner of the Kuriansky Foundation Award at the 16th Annual Faber Birren National Color Award Show, Mr. Simmons has exhibited at the Boulder Valley Art Council in Colorado, the Ashwell Gallery in Beverly, Massachusetts, and the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut. While viewing the exhibit in the Homer Babbidge Library, pay close attention to the dates for each piece, for chronological order is useful in demonstrating Mr. Simmons'' development in terms of style and technique. For instance, his first painting, The Accountant: Picture Essays in Multiplicity will be included in the show as well as Rabbit by the Sea and Giraffe and Child, which were early attempts at painting the human figure.Marc Simmons Odyssey of a Self Taught Artist, one of Connecticut''s most talked about self taught artist in 1996, His paintings depict stories of people along the way, scenes from things, and general celebrations of life. Odyssey of a Self Taught Artist Paintings by Marc Simmons depict contemporary religious painting, The Last Supper painted in acrylic in 1986, took four years to complete, five feet high by eight feet wide on canvas. The controversal girls on the beach and the last supper have been displayed together at the University of Connecticut Health Center with outcrys of removal. The ART of Infertility is a national arts organization based in Michigan. Caregiver Cruises -> Come Join Us! The Caregiver Stress Management Cruises are escorted tours designed to provide rest and respite for weary caregivers. There are also (optional) educational components. During both cruises, there will be several one-hour presentations on Caregiver Stress Management Techniques. The information used for these presentations is geared towards the individual group members and varies based on group demographics. The onboard presenter is T. Patrick Toal, MSW. Cooperative Jewish Council In the spirit of working together to provide synergy in the South Suburbs of Chicago, the Cooperative Jewish Council includes south suburban synagogues, the Jewish Federation of Chicago, the Jewish Community Center (Southern Region), B'nai Brith, National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah. The CJC promotes communication and cooperation among these institutions and behalf of a Jewish community of approximately 12,000 people who live in the south suburbs of Chicago, as well as the growing southwest suburbs, along the I-80 corridor. The leaders of these local organizations work together on joint programming, to support each other's activities and to strengthen the services offered for Jews in the south suburbs. The Cooperative Jewish Council produces a community newsletter, hosts community-wide Shabbat events and offers interesting speakers and programs throughout the year. While in some communities, similar organizations may choose to be more competitive and divisive, the spirit of cooperation embodied in the Cooperative Jewish Council is indicative of life in the south suburbs of Chicago.
