Chizuk Amuno Congregation | Engaging Jewish Life & Learning Yesterday morning in the synagogue we spoke in the moments before Yizkor of personal and collective rituals, those actions and rites that comfort in their familiarity. Last night we engaged in what has tragically become a new ritual in our community, yet one that brings no comfort, only pain. Again we emerged from the collective joy of our festival of Passover into collective mourning for another tragic shooting in a House of Worship. Who among us would have imagined that merely going to pray in a House of Faith, any faith, would become an act of bravery? Who among us would have imagined that after tragedies in Pittsburgh, in Christchurch, in Sri Lanka, that hatred and intolerance would return again from sea to shining sea? "Shalom, shalom ve ein shalom," says the prophet. Each day we pray for peace, each day we work for peace, and still there is no peace. The Chizuk Amuno family sends out heartfelt condolences to the Chabad of Poway community and the family of Lori Gilbert-Kaye. We also wish a refuah Sheleimah (complete recovery) to Rabbi Goldstein and the others who were injured. We pray that we will soon see the fulfillment of the words of Isaiah, "Nachamu, Nachamu ami Yomar eloheichem." Comfort, be comforted My people, says your God." L'shalom, Rabbi Joshua Z. Gruenberg Rabbi Debi Wechsler
